The inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships were held in Ordos, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China, from July 9 to 12, 2026. The championship brought together more than 560 outstanding young athletes from 27 Asian countries and regions, competing across track and field events. A total of 14 nations won medals, marking this historic event as the first continental championship for the U23 age category organized by the Asian Athletics Association.
The following student-athletes from the School of Physical Education, Mongolian National University of Education (MNUE) proudly represented Mongolia as members of the national team:
B. Suvd-Erdene – Long Jump
E. Khongorzul – 800m and 1500m
Ts. Munkhkherlen – 200m and 400m
D. Otgon-Erdene – 100m and 200m
During the championships, Sports Master Ts. Munkhkherlen, a student-athlete of MNUE, qualified for the women's 200m final after clocking 24.52 seconds in the heats, setting a new Mongolian national record in the women's 200m.
She also produced an outstanding performance in the 400m, finishing in 54.97 seconds to establish new Mongolian national records in both the senior and U23 categories. With this achievement, she fulfilled the requirements for the prestigious title of International Master of Sports (IMS). Remarkably, she rewrote the national records in both the 200m and 400m during the same championship—an exceptional milestone for Mongolian sprinting.
This accomplishment represents one of the most significant achievements in the recent history of Mongolian sprint athletics and demonstrates the growing competitiveness of Mongolia's young athletes on the international stage.
According to the Asian Athletics Association and World Athletics, the inaugural Asian U23 Championships serve as a new platform for identifying and developing the continent's future elite athletes, while showcasing a high standard of international competition and event organization.
The School of Physical Education of the Mongolian National University of Education continues to make a significant contribution to the development of athletics in Mongolia by preparing talented athletes for the national team and international competitions.
