History and Development of the School of Physical Education of MNUE

The School of Physical Education of Mongolian National University of Education (MSUE) is one of Mongolia’s long-established higher education institutions that has played a significant role in the development of physical education and sports in the country.

Historical Development

The school was originally established in 1955 as the Department of Physical Education under the State Pedagogical Institute with 5 instructors and 30 students.

Between 1963 and 1968, it expanded into an independent Institute of Physical Education, operating with 5 departments, more than 30 faculty members, and over 300 students at the Central Sports Palace.

Since 1968, the institution has undergone several structural changes and operated under the following names:

  • Faculty of Physical Education of UBPI
  • Faculty of Physical Education and Arts
  • Institute of Physical Education of UBIS
  • School of Physical Education of MSUE
  • School of Arts and Physical Education (2014–2017)
  • Since 2017: School of Physical Education of MSUECurrently, the school is led by Director Ph.D. O. Bold-Erdene and operates with 4 departments, more than 40 faculty and staff members, and approximately 1,000 students.

Today, 59% of the teaching staff hold doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees, reflecting the school’s highly qualified academic environment. The school has produced numerous distinguished graduates, including national heroes of labor, honored teachers, respected coaches, and elite athletes, demonstrating the quality and effectiveness of its educational programs.


Learning Environment and Facilities

The school is fully equipped with modern digital infrastructure and educational technology, including:

  • A 597.2 m² sports hall equipped with an electronic scoreboard, professional sound system, and audio equipment
  • A 134.7 m² lecture hall with seating capacity for 120 students, featuring a smart board, microphones, and audio amplification system
  • 10 seminar classrooms (30–45 m² each) equipped with smart displays and internet access
  • Portable projectors for sports hall instruction
  • Research laboratories equipped with Dartfish and other analytical software
  • Desktop and laptop computers provided for every instructor
  • Dedicated rooms for podcast production and digital content creation
  • Self-service kiosks for obtaining transcripts, payment information, and official certificates in both Mongolian and English
  • Free access to internet, electricity, and clean water
  • A library and self-study environment for students

Accreditation

The school’s academic programs have received national accreditation as follows:

  • The “Teacher Education in Physical Education” program was accredited twice, in 2020 and 2025
  • The “Sports Coaching” program was accredited in 2023
  • The master’s degree program underwent national accreditation in 2024
